Sexy Dress

It's been quite some time since I've updated this blog. Here's a treat:

Here's young Lucy in the 1940s, wearing a sexy dress.

Always beautiful.

Endearing

I read recently from somewhere that Lucille Ball had always been modest about her looks. If you call her a beautiful clown, she would be embarrassed.
Isn't that endearing? She really had no idea how beautiful and talented she had been.

Lucy at the Movies

The book that I've ordered finally arrived today! I had an inkling that my purchase would arrive today the moment I woke up, but I didn't expect Lucy at the Movies to lie in the package! I've been anticipating for this for weeks because of the great reviews I've read online!

Here's another book added to my inventory!
Review:
The author of the book, Cindy De La Hoz must have been an ardent fan of Lucille Ball. Every single one of the movies Lucille Ball had appeared in was laboriously chronicled, where movies were divided into different timelines, even those where I had not heard of!

This book is a treasure not only because of the huge and rare glossy pictures printed on the coffee table sized hard cover book, but also that much information cannot be easily found on the net or from other books, including official reviews of her movies, quotes from other people, hilarious anecdotes and interesting facts about Lucille in the movies, as well as the opinion of Lucille by people who surrounded her.

This is a must-have book! 5/5!

The Lucy Book

My long awaited book finally arrived, after almost a month since I've ordered it! I can finally add another book to my inventory!

The author of The Lucy Book, Geoffery Mark Fidelman had painstakingly chronicled every single television appearance of Lucille Ball from her first television appearance, Pantomime Quiz in 1947 right till her last years. He did a fantastic job of adding trivia and tidbits as well as quotes from people who had worked with Lucy. Those tidbits would be so precious to Lucy's fans to understand how it was like to work with her. I salute him for his effort!

It was an entertaining read. Each episode that was detailed was succinct and fun to read. It was like a trip down memory lane as I revisited each episode of I Love Lucy. There were some rare pictures scattered here and there, and the only complaint I have is that those pictures are far too little! However, a million pictures of Lucille Ball wouldn't satisfy me.

I'm halfway through the book (and I only made emergency pit stops for toilet breaks and meals), and I've never gotten bored at all once. This book is a must buy, for all Lucille Ball's fans!

Her Husband's Affairs (1947)

Lucille Ball's comedic flair in Her Husband's Affairs provided a glimpse of what would manifest in I Love Lucy. It was before she found her niche, and already she was so entertaining.
Synopsis:
Margaret (Lucille) was married to eccentric genius inventor William Weldon (Franchot Tone) who had zero marketing and communication skills. Much as he resented Margaret's interference, he always relied on her spot on suggestions to market those products. Mayhem exploded when a product that removes hair was mistaken for a hair growth formula...

My review:
Most of the jokes fell flat because the transitions were all unnatural. I only enjoyed each scene with Lucille because I'm an avid fan of hers. With an inferior script, she still gave her 120% and I really appreciated that. Her apparels were beautiful too! But objectively speaking, on the whole, I wouldn't recommend this movie to non-Lucille fans. The quality of the movie wasn't fantastic either, but we can't expect much, can we? After all, the movie was made more than 60 years ago! Otherwise, seeing the future Lucy Ricardo in this movie just cracks me up each time!

A Real Interview

Thanks to pokeahugkiss for uploading this rare radio interview of Doris Day by Lucille Ball on YouTube, I got to hear how a true interview should sound like.
You hear mutual respect from both parties, and Lucy was trying to bring out the best in Doris Day, and vice versa.

Interviews these days are sort of invasive and rude. Interviewers are always trying to milk some juicy gossip about interviewees' love lives and all those taboo sort of things that one just doesn't ask that explicitly.

Lucy was fabulous!

Dressing Room

Has anyone had the chance to visit the Lucy-Desi Museum in Jamestown of New York state? I hear they have an exhibition of her old dressing room.

Here's a rare picture of Lucille Ball in her dressing room in Desilu.

Best Foot Forward (1943)

Have I ever mentioned that I have had the privilege to watch Best Foot Forward? Though the quality of the movie wasn't fabulous, I must admit that watching Lucille Ball act as Lucille Ball sure was funny! I enjoyed the cleverly drafted script to "mock" her in a funny and endearing way.
Did she always appear in bathing suits? I don't recall seeing her in any bathing suit in films!

I got a kick out of her calling her own name. I mean, it's interesting, isn't it? I don't see Angelina Jolie going around calling herself Angelina or Miss Jolie!

I Loved Lucille Ball in this movie, honest! Her parts were the highlights!

"I Love Lucy was never just a title."
"Neither of us were ever the same again after the divorce."

This is the most amicable divorce I've ever seen. That's because the love was still deep, if not deeper, but they were just two people who could not live together.

Throughout their courtship and marriage, they loved each other, but never liked each other. It was only when they lost each other when they learned to like each other.

It is possible to love someone without liking him or her.

Color: Lucille Ball

I don't know when this was taken, but Lucy was definitely with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, as evident from her hairstyle!
